Mönchhof - Robert Eymael
(Mosel valley)
Mönchhof Estate Riesling
This wine could well be labeled as a single vineyard, Ürziger Würzgarten,
but for the sake of easy access we call it simply Mönchhof Estate Riesling.
Fresh, floral aromas and juicy, tropical fruits with a zippy, grapefruity
edge laced with a tangy thread of minerality throughout. Ripe enough
to stand up to curries and chili peppers.
Mönchhof “Astor” Kabinett
This wine could well be labeled as a single vineyard, Ürziger Würzgarten,
but for the sake of easy access we call it simply Mönchhof “Astor”
Kabinett. Floral, spicy peach and pear, integrated minerality, elegant with
subtle ripeness and balance. Rose petal, peachy, spicy pear, vivid, vibrant.
Dr. F. Weins-Prüm Estate
(Mosel valley)
Dr. F. Weins-Prüm Estate Riesling medium dry
Refined, delicate aromas of limes, rose petals and red berries frame
the shimmering peach and ruby grapefruit core that nearly sizzles with
fresh, bright acidity.
Künstler
(Rheingau region)
Franz Künstler Estate Riesling
medium dry
Minerally aromas, diesel-cheddar, mouth
filling, oily with edges, silky with tangy earth, lemony, tart finish.
Mango-peach details. Masculine…powerful balanced and modeled. Penetrating,
lemon-limey, stony, long and dry…petrol.
Robert Weil
(Rheingau region)
Robert Weil Estate Riesling dry
Smoked apricot pits, pineapple, peach biscuit, ripe, slatey, banana, cassis,
lilac, grapefruit, celery, piquant, round, silky, very dry. Packed.
Peachy, apricots, slatey, grapefruit, laser focus…Tangy, raspberry, lime,
shy at moment, silky, well integrated acids.
Robert Weil Estate Riesling Ripe, slatey, focused, black cherry, cassis, lime skin, lemony, clean, clear, touch of smoky petrol. Burnt orange campfire, framboise, silky and rich, concentrated core of layered fruit wedges, very subtle and sexy (petrol included) tart, minerally finish…wow.
Pfeffingen
(Pfalz region)
Pfeffingen Estate Riesling dry
Doris Eymael’s fragrant, trocken style Riesling is picked later giving
it a Spätlese style body and fermented bone-dry. It is packed with
mouth-watering apricots, tangy grapefruits and a smoky, spicy mineral
core. The long, dry, lingering finish screams for seafood.
Pfeffingen “Pfeffo” Kabinett medium dry
Winemaker Doris Eymael reminds us of the long history of the vine in Germany
by naming her estate Kabinett in honor of the Roman who founded the town
of Pfeffingen in the Pfalz. Ripe and peachy with hints of pineapple
and cassis. Round, silky textures are balanced with well-integrated
acidity, sprinkled with expressive, minerally spices and a tart, appley
closure. It’s wonderful with grilled salmon or pork.
von Buhl (Pfalz
region)
pvon Buhl “Armand” Kabinett
Bursting with tangy orange and lemon with an unctuous center of fragrant
honeydew, pear, and melon flaunting a peppery, earthiness knit well into
the stony, peach fabric. Concentrated yet clean, pure and elegant.
Fürst (Franken
region)
Fürst Muller-Thurgau Kabinett
trocken
This overlooked varietal should put winemaker
Paul Fürst on the map in Franken with its subtle floral aromas, snappy,
pineapple and citrus notes, and its seductive, creamy texture.
Delightfully light, dry and refreshing…perfect with shellfish or light first
courses.
Emrich-Schönleber
(Nahe valley)
Emrich-Schönleber Estate Riesling medium dry
Round, ripe, peachy, earthy, tight
balance of citrus fruits and nervy acids…textural grip…dry, apricot nectar.
Emrich-Schönleber Estate Kabinett
Fresh, tangy, spicy peaches and lemons with a touch of fennel. Superb
balance…drink me every day! Mango, cassis, raspberry, ginger, white pepper,
apricot. Elegant but with great grip.
Gunderloch (Rheinhessen region)
Gunderloch “Jean Baptiste” Riesling Kabinett
Wine maker Fritz Hasselbach’s love of Harley Davidson cycles seems to
translate into his bottles…this flashy Riesling is tanked with revved-up
raspberry and lemon combustion, accelerating into a fast lane of smoky
grapefruit. Bright and balanced, it seems to throb with turbo-ripe
fruit fuel, kicking up just a hint of earthy petrol and leaving behind
a dusty trail of minerals. It handles well on winding mountain game
fish as well as flat open, highway fusion-fare. And with the
respectively low alcohol content, there is great mileage to be had in
any kitchen!
Gunderloch Estate Riesling dry
Assertive, rich, earthy aromas are punctuated with subtle floral and celery
leaf notes. Dry and austere, long and penetrating. Perfect
with oysters, rich seafood, and many classic meat preparations.
